Name: Mrs. Kelly Thrift
Title: Preschool-Lead Teacher


Kelly is a mother of 3 grown children and a Granny to seven - ages 1 to 13! She loves her family, and her work has always revolved around them. Kelly has worked in the Willits Unified School District for many years, primarily in Special Education. She has her AA from Mendocino College as well as Early Childhood Education units.

Together with her husband and their three children, Kelly moved to Willits in 1993. Agape Bible Church became their church home and her husband Steve is one of the pastors there. Kelly also serves in many areas of ministry, including the AWANA program and in worship ministry.

Kelly is very pleased with the recent growth of Deep Valley Christian School and is excited to be part of this dynamic and growing ministry. She is passionate about helping children grow in awareness and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ, and is looking forward to the coming school year.

Name: Mrs. Kim Odneal
Title: Junior Kindergarten Teacher


Kim is a Sonoma County native. She graduated from Healdsburg High School in 1981. After high school she attended Santa Rosa Junior College. She received her AS degree in early childhood education in Mendocino College. She also worked in the medical field for many years as a nurse's aide and worked for family practice offices doing medical billing.

Kim, her husband Ron, and 9-month old daughter Breanna moved to Potter Valley in 1993. It was their desire to raise their children in a small-town atmosphere. Their son, Christopher was born 4 years later. Kim taught Sunday school for many years in their Potter Valley church and in Ukiah. Kim and her husband have been involved in the Potter Valley School and community activities for many years.

Kim worked at a Christian preschool in Ukiah for 5 years as a lead teacher. She then became the Director while still serving as a lead teacher for 11 years.

She is passionate about giving her students a good foundation in Christ and a love of learning for their future. She is dedicated, resourceful and goal-driven with a solid commitment to the social and academic growth and development of every student.

Teaching and loving students and their families is her true passion. She is delighted to be on staff at Deep Valley Christian School as the Junior Kindergarten Teacher.

Julie, her husband, and two young children moved to Willits in 2016. She has her AA in Arts and Humanities as well as Early Childhood Education units from Santa Rosa Junior College.

Julie taught preschool after college before her children were born. Julie joined our staff part-time in the fall and became a full-time teacher in January.

Julie is very passionate about teaching children academics and about God's great love for them and His awesome plans. She loves to be creative, interactive, and have fun in the classroom while teaching.

She has a great passion for music and loves to find creative ways to use it in the Kindergarten classroom. Julie is also actively involved in ministry at Agape Bible Church as the Women's Ministry Coordinator, Awana Youth Leader, and Worship Team vocalist/guitarist when time permits.


Name: Mrs. Kim Garroutte
Title: 1st Grade Teacher


Kim Garroutte is a native to Ukiah and can't imagine living anywhere else. She is the proud wife of Shane, mother of four adult children (two happily married), along with a son currently attending DVCS. Her newest blessings are her two beautiful grandchildren.

She attended Mendocino Community College and received an Associate's Degree in Liberal Studies with an Emphasis on Education. Her Undergraduate Degree also in Liberal Studies from Sonoma State University.

Kim was convicted about Christian education when her children were young. Raising and home educating a special needs child gives her a special skill set. Kim has worked for DVCD in various capacities for over 10 years from the Homeschool Coordinator, to Substitute Teacher, an internship, and as an aide. She has been homeschooling her own children for the last twenty years. She serves on the local homeschoool support group's leadership council, as well as previously at the state level. She has spoken at homeschool conventions state-wide. Along with teaching her own children, Mrs. Garroutte has taught in co-ops, in the AWANA program at her church, children's church, and many women's Bible studies. Kim has been teaching water fitness at a local establishment for over five years.

She is passionate about community involvement; having served on the local soccer board, baseball program, and various other organizations. However, her heart truly lies with supporting her local church and local Christian ministries such as Deep Valley Christian School, The Center for Life Choices, Target Truth Ministries (jail ministry), and NorCal Christian Ministries (homeless ministry). Being her authentic self, able to share the mercy that our Savior has showed us, is what drives her passion for these local, non-denominational ministries.


Name: Mrs. Cheri Beuving Tussey
Title: 2nd, 3rd, Grade Teacher


Cheri Beuving Tussey was born and raised in Redwood Valley. She attended Deep Valley from Kindergarten through 12th grade and was in the first high school graduating class in 1998.

After high school she attended Simpson University, UNCW Wilmington, and finally earned her BA in Liberal Studies from the University of Massachusetts- Boston.

Since then she has used her love of teaching to educate her own five children, who are now 10th grade, 8th grade, 4th grade, 2nd grade and Preschool. She also teaches children’s church and directs the Cubbies program at Redwood Valley Community Church. Cheri has always dreamed of teaching at Deep Valley and so is delighted to be on staff doing what she loves at the school that she loves.


Name: Miss Luayne Wright
Title: 4th, 5th, 6th Grade Teacher


Luayne was born and raised in Ukiah in a family full of teachers. She is very excited to be the upper elementary teacher of 4-6th grades. She has a natural love of science and incorporates this energy to students in second through sixth grades for their science elective. She has coordinated science fairs in the past for the Mendocino County Science Fair

Luayne received her Bachelor's degree from UC Davis, her Masters from CSU Sacramento and her multiple-subjects teaching credential from Dominican. She says she was blessed to raise three high-energy, lovely children - who are now launched into adulthood!

Her 20+ years of teaching experience includes teaching pre-school and Kindergarten at New Life Pre-School in Ukiah, teaching Kindergarten at Deep Valley Christian School, K-1 LaVida Charter School and being the grades 4-6 Aide at Tree of Life Charter School. She also taught four years of junior high and high school science at DVCS.

She is passionately convinced of the necessity of a Christian education based on a firm foundation in Scripture and the need to help our children develop a Biblical worldview with hearts sensitive to the Lord. She is excited to be part of Deep Valley’s expansion and growth.


Name: Mrs. Kelsey Rose
Title: Music/PE/Art Teacher


Kelsey Rose is a Willits native and graduated from Willits High School. She began her college education at Mendocino College. She had a fervent desire to complete her education at a Christian institution and she transferred to Simpson University where she completed her bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance.

In addition to her love for music, her passions include art, nature and being with friends and family. She loves the Lord and treasures her two sons. She feels it is a special privilege to guide, educate and love the students at DVCS.


Name: Mrs. Marcy Bennet
Title: Student Support


Marcy grew up in Los Angeles. After marriage, she and her husband, John, journeyed to many locations before settling in Willits 34 years ago. By then, Marcy was mom to Osanna and Karine.

Having a daycare in her home lead her to realize the gift of teaching. Marcy started working in a local preschool which lead to her heading up a Kindergarten/1st grade program in Willits. Osanna was then enrolled at Deep Valley (and later Karine) at that time. Marcy also served on its school board for 6 years.

She was hired as Assistant Principal at DVCS, and also was an Administrative Assistant, and 1st grade teacher.

Marcy has also been Lead Preschool Teacher at the Holland Band of Pomo Indian Preschool for 3 years. She worked two years as a special Ed teacher for Willits Unified. Which lead her to Willits Elementary Charter School as a skills facilitator and new teacher mentor -she has been serving for 7 years

Marcy holds an Associates degree in Early Childhood Education and a Mild-Severe Education Specialist credential.

Last year, she was offered a part time position here at DVCS - returning to be used by the Lord.


Name: Mrs. Sandy Peters
Title: Administrator


Sandy Peters was born in San Jose and attended Chico State University where she received her teaching credential. She moved with her husband Tom to Willits in 1986 from the Grass Valley area where she had been teaching in Auburn and Nevada City.

She taught at Deep Valley Christian School from 1995 to 1999 when her two sons attended DVCS. She retired from Mendocino County Office of Education in 2016, and she is excited to use her varied teaching experience and administration skills to help DVCS offer a Christ-centered educational opportunity for our area. She is particularly happy to work with our dedicated staff members who love the Lord.
